The GNTDA Women’s Council is calling on the Government of Ghana, garment manufacturers, suppliers and other stakeholders to take practical steps to address the rising cost of materials used by Ghana’s fashion industry.
The council believes the issue requires more than conversation. It is calling for meaningful engagement between government and industry stakeholders to examine the factors driving up garment and material costs and explore ways of making essential materials more affordable.

The appeal is also directed at garment manufacturers to consider the realities faced by local tailors, dressmakers and fashion designers who must purchase materials before they can produce and sell their garments.
For the government, the council is asking for policies and support measures that can help reduce the pressure on fashion businesses and consumers.
For manufacturers and suppliers, the call is for pricing considerations that can give local fashion professionals greater room to operate and serve their customers.
The Women’s Council believes that supporting Ghana’s fashion industry means supporting the people who make it possible—from the apprentice learning the trade to the master tailor, dressmaker, designer, manufacturer and ultimately the customer.
The council therefore urges all relevant stakeholders to come to the table, listen to fashion practitioners’ concerns, and work together on practical solutions.
If Ghana is serious about building a stronger, more competitive fashion industry, it cannot ignore production costs and affordability.
The time for dialogue and action is now. The GNTDA Women’s Council is calling for government and industry stakeholders to work together to make fashion materials more accessible, protect local fashion businesses and help make quality Ghanaian clothing more affordable for the people.
